I have been suffering from panic/anxiety disorder for about 9 months now and it has been HELL!!! After realizing what i had actually ran in my family! my grandmother suffers from THE SAME EXACT THING! so i really think it is hereditary, I have tried Xanax (didn't help) , Lexapro (didn't even feel it AT ALL) , Effexor (current medication, worked in the beginning now i think i need a higher dose of more the 150mg!) she also gave me clonopin, which is actually an anti seizure drug. But it really really helps if i'm having an episode. it almost slows down your thoughts and just makes you more relaxed~ my grandmother is taking zoloft, has worked MIRACLES on her. I think i'm gonna try that next.... anyone else have any other suggestions????? please reply

I take zoloft primarily for depression but it doesn't help all that much with anxiety. I've been on it for over 10 years. Haven't tried anything else for anxiety except for Trazadone (generic of Desyrel) which is an antidepressant that makes me relax enough to sleep but doesn't zombie me out the next day...perhaps I should try it during the day to see what happens.

First of all yes, its totally hell! mine has been on and off for about three years. dont bother with celexa, generic citalopram, its pretty weak i think. I still had all my symptoms, i just forced myself to cope which really didnt benefit me. I just switched to something new, so we shall see. I pray a lot, and plan on maybe doing some counseling with my pastor.
GOod luck! |

Anxiety is scary and in some cases medication is a good solution, but I find the ease with which doctors write prescriptions rather disturbing. Anxiety is an extremely common mental health issue, and one that can OFTEN be worked through without drugs. Sometimes it's best to figure things out for yourself. The long term route to overcoming anxiety will usually be found by first determining the cause of your anxiety, and then resolving that issue. This will vary from person to person, but from my experience anxiety relief will usually involve finding a way to reverse some sort of mental or thought habits. There are many programs that help do this.. Check out anxietyaway.com or just do a google search for natural anxiety remedies. I wish you all the best, and urge you to not be too quick to pop pills without considering other solutions.
